Thanks for your response. We structed the video like this to emphasise the key points of how to teach someone to ride a unicycle. It is not an example of someone on the journey of how to learn which could have diluted the message.

Short cranks make you go faster and smoother but... you need better balance. Longer cranks are better for learners.

Nice to hear from you and keep it up! You need to move forward on this mount, like walking up the stairs. It sounds like you are treating the pedal more like a ladder and not moving forward enough. It can also help if you push the saddle forward as you mount so it does not come back (the action is a little like a pole volt). I hope this helps.

@@CoriOjeda longer is easier for free mounting. The shorter cranks make you move faster and are smoother, but take a higher skill level.

⁠@@unicycledotcomukI just got my first unicycle a week ago but I’m going to have to replace my cranks. The ones that are on it are 114mm. It has a 20inch wheel. Would 125mm or 150mm cranks be better. Or do you have a better suggestion size.

@@CoriOjeda 114 to 127 are the standard learner crank sizes for a 20" wheel. Any longer or shorter would make it harder to control. If you are struggle with the balance aspect of riding then 125 may help over the 114, but as soon as you start to move, then 114 are better.

We have produced sample rims at 44inch, so we know they are possible but currently do not the frame to install them in to or the market demand to tool one up. This does not mean it will not happen.

I will agree, when Mattias Nordström went past me doing 53.2 km/h at the Swedish 3 day, I could only do 51.2 km/h... I blame that on my little legs and him being on a 54"!

Sorry to hear you are having problems. Some of the rims/tyre combinations are very tight and I suspect this is the problem you have. Do you have a Stealth rim, not a Stealth 2 rim? the Stealth is a lot harder to install. I suspect that the bead of the tyre is not sitting on the landing area of the rim correctly. You can check on the tyre when inflated as there is a small bead running around the tyre, it should be even distance all the way around the tyre when seated correctly (about 3mm). To help you need a liberal amount of lube on the bead of the tyre to help it slip up on to the seated area. I hope that helps.

Although 26" now has limited and older style tyre choices it is still a popular size as the tyres that are available (Duro Wildlife Leopard) are fantastic tyres for unicycling. They are tolerant and compliant in a way that very few other tyres are. The size of the wheel makes the unicycle more agile and easier to handle, but only slightly in the case of the 27.5" that gains it agility due to it's lightness. I hope this helps.

Due to the size of the wheel we have found it easier to lace it outside of a stand. For truing the stand/fork is essential.

The load on bicycles is totally different from that on unicycles. When we first started manufacturing trials unicycles we went to Onza for the cranks, they were staggered that we snapped their best trials cranks in one day. The load is a shock load and this is what breaks them.
